NYC’s Big Lazy has flourished for over 2 decades, playing their singular brand of crime jazz and highway twang from The Whitney Museum of American Art to the Opéra de Lyon. Big Lazy’s blend of Blues, Jazz, Surf and Rockabily with Spy and Film Noir film music creates an intoxicating elixir.
“The Big Apple Crème de la Crème.” Robert Christgau, dean of American rock critics
“Big Lazy, the elegantly gritty instrumental trio led by the extraordinary guitarist Stephen Ulrich, plays stunningly beautiful music that evokes everything from truckers’ romps to the haunting film scores of Bernard Herrmann.” –The New Yorker
Big Lazy founder Stephen Ulrich is the composer for the HBO series Bored to Death and the art forgery documentary Art and Craft.
On October 18, 2019, Big Lazy releases their sixth album Dear Trouble on Checkered Past Records. Dear Trouble dwells in the landscape of noir Americana. With a nod toward classic guitar instrumentals and a fiery performance style, the new album captures the essence of the trio’s legendary live shows. Dear Trouble features NYC luminaries including Marc Ribot.
